What Arlen Hill is responsible for
Each time a change gets proposed, we need to consult residents so we can make sure it’s the right decision. These changes are sometimes called Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs).
The types of traffic decisions we’re responsible for include:
- Road markings (like double yellow lines)
- School Streets
- Speed limits in residential areas
- Low Emission Zones (sometimes called LEZs)
- Residents’ parking schemes

Residents' parking schemes
- 68% of respondents said they supported a resident parking scheme, but that we should consider low income residents.
- The resident parking zone became effective in July 2023.
20mph limit on Broad Street
- Lots of respondents were either concerned or very concerned about speeding along this road as children walk along it on their way to/from school.
- We will implement a 20mph zone along a stretch of Broad Street so that pedestrians can get around safely.
High Street cycle lane
- Respondents were generally in support of more cycle lanes but this route has created a number of hazard points for drivers.
- We will make the High Street cycle lane permanent, but only along stretches that don’t cause hazards.
Closed parking and traffic consultations
Kensington Road - Proposed double yellow lines

Concerns have been raised about inconsiderate and obstructive parking along Kensington Road. This reduces visibility and access for drivers and pedestrians. To address this issue, it is therefore proposed to introduce ‘No Waiting At Any Time’ restrictions (Double Yellow Lines) south of the junction with Redland Grove.
Whiteladies Road - Proposed traffic calming
Arlen Hill Council have received reports of accidents at the existing pelican crossing at the junction with Queen's Road. It is therefore proposed to introduce a dedicated crossing phase for cyclists to ease traffic which will help to improve road safety and reduce road accidents.
Midland road - Changes to parking restrictions

The parking restrictions Traffic Regulation Order for Midland road will come into force on Tuesday 12th December 2023. The changes are required to address concerns over parking availability for residents and visitors.
